Divergent Paradigms

I consider a paradigm divergent, if it either bears little or no resemblance to the dominant paradigms of existing media, or if is a synergistic blend of existing paradigms.

Thus sound and video together are not divergent, for it is part of the paradigm of film and TV. Neither are text and still images, for it is part of the print paradigm. Blend them all together, however, and you have multimedia, a synergistic paradigm. Blend hypertext with multimedia, and you have hypermedia.

As I've pointed out, these divergent paradigms are often a fusion of various key paradigms, it this fusion will allow the potential of the WEB to be exploited more fully. When all the key paradigms are fused, then the WEB's full potential will be finally realized. What is even more important is the psychosocial impact of this fusion; McLuhan's vision of the retribalized global village will be realized. I have labeled this synergy of all the key paradigms hyperadaptivity.
