Intelligent Sites

The purpose of an intelligent site is to interact at a deep level with the user in order to provide an information space uniquely tailored to them. An intelligent site adapts itself to the user's intellectual interests, cultural literacy, and emotional development to present the user with the environment that most suites them.

Within this environment, the site dialogues with the user both explicitly, though actual questions and tests, and implicitly, though observing the user's navigational and creative efforts. The site can be either directive or nondirective. A nondirective site has no goal for the user, the user just experiences the site. A directive site has a goal or a choice of goals for the user, it acts as teacher, mentor, friend, or even bouncer if the site feels the user isn't ready for it at any level. The preferred approach however, is that of stimulating the user's intellectual, cultural, and emotional growth. If the user experiences growth in these areas, then you've provided the ultimate experience.
